We had a conversation with Dipen Dahal at WordCamp Kathmandu 2018.
What made you come to WordCamp Kathmandu 2018?
I came here as an attendee. To be frank, I went through the topics. And I found that there are effective topics related to SEO, Security and Front-end developer. This topic caught my attention and here I am.
Have you been to WordCamp Kathmandu 2017 or any other previous WordCamps?
Yeah, it’s my fourth time.
What do you like about this WordCamp Kathmandu 2018?
In the initial years of WordCamp, the topics were not that good. Likewise, the session or discussion was not so much effective. But nowadays, the topics are so good and informative. We could easily learn many things from those topics. So far, I sat in two sessions, one is SEO and another one is Front-end developer. The talks were up to the point and I found what I have been searching for.
How long have you been on WordPress?
I have been working with WordPress since 2013. First, I used to work with CI as an intern. Later on, my friend suggested me to choose over WordPress instead of Drupal and Magento. He further told me that future on WordPress is also good. And then, I decided to go with WordPress as a WordPress Developer.
What do you think of WordPress Community in Nepal?
No doubt, it is very good and the people who are engaged in the Community are very helpful. There is a page named WordPress Nepal on Facebook. And, WordPress Nepal is always there to help us.
What would you like to see change in WordPress Platform in the next 5 years?
WordPress is very good. Its features and functionalities are very powerful. But it would be better if they also develop the mobile app. Till now WordPress has not developed any mobile app which is compatible with any kind of themes. So, I am trying to contribute to this part. And I am searching on Google for this section to see its possibilities.
Do you find the value of being here today?
What are your suggestions to make WordCamp better in the upcoming years?
There are not any topics related to Mobile App back in 2014. I found there was only one session regarding the Mobile App. After that, I haven’t found talks concerning mobile app development. I was looking forward to seeing it in today’s session. But there is not any. Likewise, there was only one talk about security. I think the organizer should mainly focus on these parts in upcoming WordCamps.
For someone who is new to WordCamp or even WordPress, what would you like to recommend or suggest?
Based on my experience, I would like to suggest them to learn PHP and Programming. Make a habit of researching and update your knowledge. If you want to make a career in projects, then start with smaller projects. Try to be part of the theme review team if you are planning to move in theme. There are various WordPress channels. Be familiar with them, ask questions and learn new things.
What was your background before stepping into WordPress?
I was in IT.
Besides WordPress, what are your hobbies or passion?
I love traveling with friends.
